Choosing your 2018 Ram 1500
The Ram 1500 was one of the bestselling lightweight trucks for the 2016-2017 year of sales. It sold almost half a million units altogether and ranked third highest in sales.
Most Ram 1500 models in Kansas City come with what is called Active-Level Four-Corner Air Suspension. This inclusion is unique because it helps to automatically level loads and will lower the truck so that it gets less air resistance at higher speeds and gives you greater efficiency in your driving. This option comes standard on the Rebel and Limited Crew models. This also gives you the option of five different height settings for your ride that can be found on the dashboard among the other controls.
A Few New Things in 2018/2019
The new 2019 Ram 1500 available in Kansas City and Missouri was shown off at the Detroit Auto Show and has a few changes to it. The weight of the truck itself is actually 225 pounds lighter and has a motor available that is a battery-powered hybrid 48V electric motor. This motor is paired with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. The 3.0 EcoDiesel V6 is not going to be available at least for the start of the 2019 year. It is putting the milder hybrid in place of the current diesel. As for the entertainment system, you will have the option of getting a 12-inch touchscreen display for the center infotainment system in the Ram.
As for the 2018 model lineup for the Ram, there are not going to be any significant changes. All the main features; the body, the frame, and the drivetrain, will be the same as 2017.
Just like any other truck company that sells a lot of vehicles, Ram offers a few special editions for different buyers. At the State Fair of Texas, Ram unveiled the Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn Southfork, which is also available as a Ram 2500 and a Ram 3500. The 2018 Ram 1500 Harvest Edition is geared towards the agriculture industry and the Limited Tungsten Edition is one of the higher end luxury trucks available. Some other options available for different trim levels are an upgrade on the appearance of the Sports model and a new leather interior on the Rebels.
Ram has also come out with a 1500 Hydro Blue Sport special edition. This truck is blue all around and comes available in 4×2 and 4×4 options. The Hydro Blue Sport is only available in a crew cab with short body trucks. It comes standard with the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 Engine. It is limited to only 2000 trucks. In the past, Ram customers have been very excited about color themes that have come out so it is a good bet that we will see at least one or two of these special editions every year. The starting price for this particular special edition will be $46,060.
The 2018 Ram 1500 has three engine options.
The 3.6L Pentastar V6 24-Valve VVT comes with a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission and outputs 305 horsepower. This Ram gets up to 17 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. The torque output is 269 lb-ft. All models can be configured with the 3.6-liter V6 except for the Limited Crew and the Laramie Longhorn Crew.
The 5.7L V8 Hemi MDS VVT is a V8 offering 395 horsepower and fuel-saving variable valve timing technology. This is the standard engine for the Limited Crew and Laramie Longhorn Crew and it is optional on other trim levels. This Ram is estimated to get 15 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. It throws out 410 lb-ft of torque, giving that extra kick for towing heavy loads.
The 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 can be chosen on all Ram 1500 trim levels (except the Rebel, Night Edition and the Express) for maximum fuel economy and the best towing capability. This will get you 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with 240 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.
All 2018 Ram 1500 models include backup cameras. There is a Fleet Telematics Module available for vehicle tracking and Sirius Guardian that has Vehicle Finder, Remote Services, SOS call, Roadside Assistance and Send and Go. The UConnect system comes with an 8.4-inch display screen with USB Flip, Android Auto, 4G LTE, HD radio and Apple CarPlay. The display has a great resolution and offers pinch-to-zoom manipulation.
Coming up in the Ram world is a special Tradesman HFE model (HFE) that is not yet available but will offer 29 mpg. It comes with a quad cab and a 6-foot, 4-inch box. More information will be provided once the EcoDiesel is certified.
There are three different cab styles for customers to choose from on the new 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 model. There is, of course, the regular standard cab that past customers have come to know and love, with two doors and a front seat. Both the quad cab and crew cab have four doors and are equipped with a back seat. If you want to beat the smaller rear legroom of the quad cab then choose the crew cab for your extra passenger space comfort.
The basic models of the 2018 Ram 1500 are very affordable.
